Welcome to Obidos the unique little city nestling behind the imposing walls of a medieval castle. Just a 40 minute drive from Lisbon and away from the bustle of mass tourism you can walk the cobbled, car free paths and shop for handmade ware like pullovers, table clothes, bedspreads and a range of decorative and useful souvenirs. All at non touristic prices.

Take a break from shopping and try a glass of ginger wine served in chocolat cups, a speciality of Obidos or visit the museum and the old landmarkes.

Dine or lunch at one of the cosy little restaurants either within or outside the city walls, good food, excellent wine and affordable prices. Sit in a cafe and watch the world go by or go to the Pousada for the atmosphere... not cheap. or if you are daring walk along the the city wall, the view is fantastic.


The spacious holiday home we offer you is just five minutes walk from the entrance to the walled city and a ten minute drive to the wide and fabulous sandy beach of Foz de Arello, europes largest lagoon, opening to the Atlantic.

The house has three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a living room with a fireplace, a large and well equipped kitchen as well has two terraces one of them with a built in barbecue area. Orleander and bourganvilla grace the upper terrace.



The complex has twelve houses and eleven of them are lived in all year round by local people so this house does not belong to the usual category of homes for tourists. The residents are polite and helpful and a lot of them speak English. There is also a good sized swimminng pool for residents and a well stocked supermarket round the corner.

Obidos is less than an hours drive from historical places like Fatima. Battalha, Sintra, Evora , Peniche and Nazarre; and just 5 km. from the warm baths of Caldas da Rainha. Many excellent beaches are also within 10 to 20 minutes drive away. A car is useful but Portugal aslo has an excellent public transport
